INTEGRATED CARE & SPECIAL PROGRAMS
DAY TREATMENT ALTERNATIVE (DISC) DISC stands for Day In School Counseling and was begun several years ago in collaboration with the Department of Social Services. This voluntary program is a more intensive option for kids who are displaying serious behavior problems at school and may have other mental health and/or family concerns as well.
DISC includes individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy when available, case management and incentives for behavior. Incentives are an important component because the kids enrolled typically need external motivation to positively change their behavior at first.
Kids are referred to DISC through schools, social services, and community agencies. A parent must be willing to have an assigned caseworker and a treatment plan at the Department of Social Services for a child to participate. Therapy, case management and incentives are provided at no cost to families.
